Keel/Compare/Employee Navigator alternatives

Alternatives guide

Employee Navigator alternatives, without the spin.

Here's the truth about this search: most people typing it aren't actually unhappy with Employee Navigator's back office. They're unhappy with how enrollment feels. Those are different problems with different answers, and this guide separates them.

Every claim sourced and checked, July 2026.

Do you actually need an alternative?

Employee Navigator runs benefits administration for 7,000+ brokers and 195,000+ employers, with 1,200+ production carrier feeds. If your carrier connections, ACA and COBRA compliance, and payroll sync all work, replacing it is a big project with a small payoff.

If your complaint is the employee experience, the dated click-through screens, the "too many steps," the zero guidance, you don't need to leave EN at all. You need a better enrollment on top of it. That's the job Keel was built for. Cheaper and faster than a migration, and your compliance setup doesn't change.

If your complaint is the back office itself, you have outgrown SMB-scale administration, you need enterprise service models, or you want benefits inside one all-in-one HR system, then a true platform switch is on the table, and the honest candidates are below.

A common surprise

Looking for Ease? It's Employee Navigator now.

Worth knowing before you shortlist

Ease was acquired by Employee Navigator in April 2023.

Ease was the most-cited EN alternative for small groups. It's now the same company: Employee Navigator announced the acquisition in April 2023 and has been folding Ease's features into its own platform since. If a guide still recommends Ease as an EN alternative, you have learned how recently it was researched.

Keel

Fix the experience, keep the back office

A benefits platform brokers white-label: Amanda-guided enrollment, employee questions, COBRA, and compliance on one record, with the EN-ready export produced at the end.

Best forBrokers whose groups need a modern, guided enrollment without replacing the ben admin underneath.
Watch outKeel isn't an HRIS and doesn't transmit to carriers; your ben admin keeps that job by design.

ALEX Home (Jellyvision)

Decision support grown into ben-admin

ALEX built its name on the virtual benefits counselor, and ALEX Home expanded it into a full platform where elections flow to carriers, payroll, and vendors. A real EN alternative if you want guidance and administration from one vendor.

Best forEmployers already sold on ALEX's counselor who want one platform for guidance plus enrollment.
Watch outThe ben-admin layer is the newest part of the product; the counselor is the mature part.

Nayya, inside a partner admin

Claims-powered guidance layer

Nayya adds a personalized, claims-data-powered recommendation on top of a partner benefits admin such as Selerix BenSelect. It upgrades the guidance, not the back office, and the election system of record stays with the partner platform.

Best forEmployers on (or moving to) a Nayya-compatible admin who want the most data-rich recommendation available.
Watch outNot standalone: it embeds in the partner admin, so it is an add-on to a platform decision, not an EN replacement by itself.

bswift

Enterprise-scale ben-admin

An enterprise ben-admin platform, owned by Francisco Partners since its acquisition from CVS Health, pairing the software with service teams and its own AI assistant, Emma.

Best forEmployers who have outgrown SMB-scale administration and want a heavier service model.
Watch outEnterprise procurement, pricing, and implementation weight; overkill for most small groups.

Rippling and Gusto

Benefits inside an all-in-one HR suite

HR platforms where benefits administration is one module of a larger payroll and HRIS system, bought by the employer rather than through a broker-centric model.

Best forEmployers consolidating payroll, HR, and benefits into one system and willing to change how their broker works.
Watch outBroker workflows and benefits depth vary; you're buying an HR suite first and a ben-admin second.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Keel a replacement for Employee Navigator?
No, and it isn't trying to be. Keel replaces the form-based enrollment experience, not the back office. Employees enroll in Keel, and Keel produces the Employee-Navigator-ready export bundle your team uploads.
What happened to Ease?
Employee Navigator acquired Ease in April 2023 and has been merging its features into the EN platform since. Ease is no longer a separate alternative.
What is the cheapest path to a better enrollment experience?
Keeping your ben admin and adding a guided enrollment layer on top is almost always cheaper than a platform migration. A back office switch means re-doing carrier connections, compliance setup, and training; an enrollment upgrade on top doesn't touch them.
Does Keel work with ben admins other than Employee Navigator?
Yes. Keel produces a ben-admin-shaped export bundle per group. Employee Navigator is the primary target today, and the bundle format is built to feed whichever admin a group runs.
